Dr. Sergio Hernandez-Marin is an Analytics Business Performance Lead at Google Pay with more than 10 years experience in Big Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence. His work is currently focused on Prescriptive Analytics for autonomous, intelligent and automatic business insight generators. With academia, he has collaborated actively with several faculty members on data analytics and Artificial Intelligence for informed teaching and learning to understand how technology can provide insight and visualisation of the learning journey undertaken by students and trainees, from attendance, through engagement, (active) interaction with the learning content and training process. Dr Hernandez-Marin holds three advanced master’s degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from Spain and France, a PhD in Applied Statistics in Artificial Intelligence from the UK and an MBA from Copenhagen Business School. Prior to Google, he has held a variety of roles in universities small and big companies in several industries: Defence, IT/Telecom, Aerospace, Healthcare, Renewable Energy working how Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.

Keynote Synopsis
A recent acceleration of innovation in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a wide variety of domains from speech recognition and image classification to genomics has made it a hot topic during the last few years. AI has been increasingly seen as a high potential tool to help in education as well: indeed, it offers the opportunity to enhance learning environments for the educator to better evaluate the learning process, as well as to help learners improve their learning experiences. In this context, it is expected that AI will have a significant influence on education at all levels, starting from schools, to university education, to continuous learning. It will impact both the way we deliver education and the way students will be able to learn, get deeper knowledge on subjects of interest, and improving professional skills. This talk will describe a variety of ways in which AI is used in personalized learning as well as future trends.
